Android Pay may be the new darling of Google’s commerce efforts, but Wallet isn’t going away just yet.Google announced you’ll be able to use the newest update for the Wallet app on Android and iOS to send money to anyone with a valid U.S. phone number. The recipient will get a text message with a secure link, where they can then enter their debit card to claim the funds.

You could already send money to someone else via email, so this makes the process to settle up the bar tab that much easier. This update follows other recent improvements, like the ability to add a second bank account, a one-touch command to quickly lock the app, and improved autosuggestions based on your contact list.

Why this matters: With the rise of Android Pay, Google Wallet was recently repurposed for personal money transfers, much like PayPal or Venmo. All transactions are free, which makes Wallet an attractive option for craigslist purchases, splitting a restaurant bill, or paying fantasy league winnings.
